Zuckerberg seeks AI collaboration in South Korea

Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg met with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol in Seoul and discussed cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence and ways to prevent the spread of fake news ahead of a key election, Yoon's office said.
Zuckerberg is on a mini-tour of Asia that includes a stop in Japan as well as a three-day visit to Seoul, where he met with business leaders from electronics giants Samsung and LG. He then heads to India.
Yoon and Zuckerberg discussed cooperation between South Korean companies and Meta "as well as the vision of creating a digital ecosystem with artificial intelligence," Sung Tae-yeon, Yoon's political chief, told reporters.
"Yoon emphasized that South Korean companies are leading the memory market for AI systems and asked Zuckerberg to establish close cooperation with them," the official said.
Yoon stressed that South Korea "with its diverse portfolio of smart electronics, wearables and smart cars could become an outstanding platform" to implement Facebook parent company Meta's artificial intelligence, Sung said.
Yoon told Meta's founder that Seoul would help in any way "if necessary," citing the close supply chain cooperation mechanisms established between South Korea and the United States.
In light of major global elections this year - including South Korea's parliamentary vote in April and the US presidential election in November - Yoon asked the Meta boss to "pay special attention" to monitoring and preventing fake news on his platform.
