Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit Budapest on Thursday (7 November) for an important European summit hosted by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
Orban is one of the EU's main sceptics of support for Kiev.
The meeting of the European political community comes at a time when Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election is fuelling concerns in Kiev about Washington's long-term commitment to support Ukraine against the Russian invasion.
"Tomorrow I will be in Budapest to participate in the meeting of the European political community at the invitation of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban," Zelensky said in an evening address posted on Telegram and quoted by AFP.
Orban is a fierce Trump supporter who has criticised US aid to Kiev.
The Hungarian leader also questioned Europe's financial support for Kiev and criticised sanctions against Russia over the invasion.
Budapest is currently hosting the EU's six-month rotating presidency, giving it the opportunity to influence the bloc's agenda.
Orban drew sharp criticism in the EU for flying to Moscow for talks with Putin at the start of Hungary's presidency in July, days after meeting with Zelensky in Kiev.
Orban and Zelensky were on sharp terms during the war, with the Hungarian leader calling Zelensky an "adversary" and criticising the "victory plan" presented by Zelensky, which called for increased Western support. | BGNES
