Zelensky: The next months will be decisive in the war between Russia and Ukraine

"The next few months will be decisive in Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine."

This is what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said during his visit to the United States, where he is for the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Kyiv Independent reported.

At the American Academy of Achievement awards ceremony in Washington, Zelensky called on Kiev's allies to act faster and "determine what the outcome of the war will be."

"We don't have much time. The next few months will be decisive. We don't have much time ahead of us in this war - Russia's war against Ukraine and all of you because this is Russia's war against freedom itself - to determine what the outcome will be. And we must determine it. Not Russia, not its bloody allies. We must be quicker. We must not waste the next few months in war lest we lose the next decades," the Ukrainian leader said.

During his stay in the US, Zelensky will present his "victory plan" to his American counterpart Joe Biden, as well as presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris and members of Congress.

He will also attend the UN General Assembly in New York and meet with other world leaders.

Zelensky will present his "victory plan" as Ukraine holds territory in Russia's Kursk region, though Moscow continues to apply pressure on several fronts in the eastern part of the country.

Ukraine said it was open to proposals from Washington to strengthen the plan. U.S. officials said they have looked at elements of Zelensky's strategy and expressed confidence "that it can work."

The Ukrainian president said the plan aims to end the war with the support of international partners without relying on Russia's cooperation. However, he did not specify how this would be achieved.

"This should be our common achievement - the victory of freedom without compromises at the expense of freedom," Zelensky said.

At the American Academy of Achievement Awards ceremony, the Ukrainian leader received the Golden Plate Award in recognition of his contribution to human development. | BGNES
