Zelensky: The frozen Russian assets must become a real aid to the Ukrainian defence

"Ukraine needs the Russian assets seized in the West for real defence assistance."

This was stated by the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Anadolu Agency reported.

In June, G7 leaders agreed on a plan to lend Ukraine about $50 billion by the end of the year. For this purpose, the interest received from the profits from the frozen Russian state assets worth about 300 billion dollars will be used.

Vladimir Putin condemned the decision as "theft" and that it "will not go unpunished". He stated that "anyone could be next in line for expropriation by the US and the West."

"There have already been many political statements from our partners. There is still a lot of talk about this. But we need a real mechanism. We need the proceeds from the aggressor's assets to work for real defense assistance against the aggressor," Zelensky said.

Claiming that discussions on this issue have been going on "for too long", the Ukrainian leader said that it is necessary to make decisions in this regard.

He said it was important for partners to meet their military aid obligations, calling it "fundamental" to Ukraine's defense. | BGNES
