Zelensky signed a law prohibiting the pro-Russian Ukrainian Orthodox Church

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law banning ties to the Moscow Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UPC).
The decision was published on the website of the Ukrainian Parliament.

Zelensky approved the bill, which was endorsed by Russia, on the day Ukraine celebrated its independence from the Soviet Union.

Ukraine has been trying to distance itself from the Russian Church since 2014. to us, as efforts are being made to speed up the invasion of Russia in 2022.

The Ukrainian leader declared that this move would increase the independence of his country.

"Today, the UPC organization is taking a step towards freedom from Moscow's anger," he said.

The UPC officially separated from the Moscow Patriarchate in 2022, but the Ukrainian authorities repeatedly accuse its clergy of remaining loyal to Russia.

The invasion of Russia is supported by the leader of the Orthodox Church abroad, Patriarch Kirill, a trusted ally of President Vladimir Putin. | BGNES
