Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Vladimir Putin of planning to attack nuclear power plants in his country, warning of disastrous consequences.
Zelensky made the statement at the UN General Assembly in New York, AFP reports.
"I recently received another alarming report from our intelligence. Now it seems that Putin is really planning attacks on our nuclear power plants and infrastructure, aiming to disconnect the plants from the power grid," the Ukrainian leader said.
He claims Russia is using satellites to gather images and detailed information about Ukraine's nuclear infrastructure.
"Any critical incident in the power system could lead to a nuclear catastrophe, such a day should never come. Moscow needs to understand that, and that depends in part on your determination to pressure the aggressor. These are nuclear power plants. They must be safe," the Ukrainian president stressed.
He added that Ukraine would never accept a deal imposed from the outside and questioned the motives of China and Brazil for insisting on negotiations with Russia. | BGNES
