"Participants in today's meeting must decide together how to achieve peace in Ukraine in a truly lasting way according to the UN Charter."
This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in his speech at the opening of the Summit for Peace in Ukraine, which is being held near the city of Lucerne in Switzerland.
Zelensky said that Russia was not interested in peace and that the meeting participants should decide together how to achieve peace "in a truly lasting way" under the UN Charter.
"When the plan of action is on the table, agreed by all and transparent to the peoples, then it will be communicated to the representatives of Russia. So that at the second peace summit we can fix the real end of the war," stressed the Ukrainian president.
Zelensky said Russia was not invited to the summit because Moscow was not interested in peace.
According to the Ukrainian leader, the summit will focus on three points: nuclear safety, food security and the release of prisoners and deportees.
He noted that the meeting will prove that peace and security are possible and provide a "real plan" to ensure that every step towards peace works.
Zelensky stressed that the rules of the UN Charter must be implemented and that Kyiv and the participants of the summit must decide how the countries will cooperate and who will be co-facilitators for the implementation of the action plan. | BGNES
