Chinese President Xi Jinping hailed ties with France on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties, calling for closer ties between Paris and Beijing amid global tensions.
In a video message delivered at a reception in Beijing, Xi said six decades of diplomatic relations had contributed to "world peace, stability and development".
"The two countries should unswervingly develop their bilateral relations and respond to global uncertainty with the stability of Sino-French relations," Xi said.
He called for "the two countries to jointly advocate for an equal and orderly multipolar world and economic globalization that is beneficial to all."
In recent years, France and China have sought to strengthen their ties, and in November 2023 the then first diplomat of Paris visited Beijing and said that the two countries should "strive to find answers to the big challenges".
President Emmanuel Macron also visited the country in April, receiving a rock star welcome from a crowd of hundreds of students and fans at a university in southern China./BGNES
