Xavi Hernandez has officially left the post of head coach of Barcelona, the Catalans announced in a press statement.
The former Blaugrana player initially announced in January that he would be leaving Camp Nou at the end of the season, but has since changed his mind.
"Barcelona president Joan Laporta has informed Xavi Hernandez that he will not continue to lead the first team in the 2024/25 season. The meeting between the two was also attended by Rafa Juste, Anderson Luis da Sousa, Deco, Oscar Hernandez and Sergio Allegre. Barcelona thanks to Xavi for his coaching work as well as his great career as a footballer and team captain and wish him all the best in the future. Xavi Hernandez's last game in charge of the team will be away to Sevilla on Sunday days, Barcelona will announce the new sports-technical structure of the team", said a club statement.
According to reports, Laporta was left unhappy with Xavi's comments about the club's financial situation and that they would be a hindrance to Barcelona next season. The former Barca player led the Catalans to the La Liga title in the 2022/23 season, which was also the club's first since 2019.
A candidate for the Camp Nou vacancy is former Bayern Munich and Germany coach Hanzi Flick. /BGNES
