Rumen Radev, president of Bulgaria, declined a government offer to head the delegation to the NATO summit in July in Washington, D.C., according to his press office, world media reported.
Radev cited a lack of consultation when the government determined Bulgaria's official stance and commitments regarding the war in Ukraine.
This decision follows contentious discussions in Bulgaria between pro-Western and pro-Russian factions over whether Bulgaria should send its leading military officer, Sergey Radev, to the NATO meeting.
After Russia invaded Ukraine, Radev took a Kremlin-friendly stance and publicly said that providing military aid to Kyiv would prolong the crisis, both of which have drawn criticism from political opponents. Those who support providing military assistance to Ukraine have been labelled as "warmongers" by him. |BGNES
