"As long as China and the EU strengthen solidarity and cooperation, there will be no inter-bloc confrontation."
This was stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his visit to Spain.
The top diplomat said he was ready to work with the bloc to promote free trade, practice multilateralism, promote an equal and organized multipolar world, and inclusive economic globalization, US News reported.
Wang Yi said China views the EU as an "important power in the multipolar model" and supports the EU's European integration, development and growth, and the achievement of strategic autonomy.
The head of Chinese diplomacy made these comments during a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Madrid. He also met his Spanish counterpart and King Felipe VI of Spain.
Wang Yi said China is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with Spain, strengthen cooperation in development strategies, and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation.
The EU is pursuing a policy of reducing economic dependence on China, which the bloc regards with greater suspicion due to its close ties to Russia.
In January, the European Commission unveiled plans to strengthen the EU's economic security through tighter controls on foreign investment and more coordinated controls on exports and technology leaks to rivals such as China.
The EU executive's package is in response to the multiple risks posed by the COVID pandemic, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, cyber and infrastructure attacks and heightened geopolitical tensions./BGNES
