"Ukraine is moving towards EU accession with incredible speed".
This was stated by the President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, in a video message published on the social network X.
"Europe will always be with Ukraine, because Ukraine is Europe. Your freedom is our freedom. Your security is our security", said Von der Leyen on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day.
"And now you are moving with incredible speed towards joining the EC. We've been behind you since day one and we'll keep doing it as long as it lasts. Glory to Ukraine", she added.
Ukraine officially became a candidate for EU membership in June 2022, four months after the massive invasion of Russia abroad.
The first round of official accession negotiations will be held in June this year. | BGNES
