The European Union is ready to "reach out" to China and "deepen" its relations with Beijing, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The head of the European executive would like to "expand" ties in trade and infrastructure, AFP reported.
"It is time to rebalance our relations with China in a spirit of fairness and reciprocity," she said.
Von der Leyen assured that the EU would be "pragmatic" towards the United States once Donald Trump returns to the White House.
"Our absolute priority will be to start a dialogue immediately, to explore what our common interests are and to prepare for negotiations," she said, stressing that the bloc would defend its "interests" and "values". | BGNES
