Von der Leyen defined aid to Ukraine as the top priority of the EU

Ursula von der Leyen identified aid to Ukraine as the top priority of the EU. Her statement came during the debate between the candidates for the new president of the European Commission, which is being held in Brussels, reported BGNES.
"First of all, Ukraine should be helped. Ukraine is fighting a war that is a war of freedom against oppression, Ukraine is fighting for our values and for all free nations," Von der Leyen said.
The current EC President added that improvements are needed in the European defense industry.
"There are two options: national contributions or new own resources for the European level. It's time to talk about new own resources," she said, calling for talks between European institutions and member states on common defense funding.
Von der Leyen also commented on the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, stating that the situation is dramatic. At the same time, she identified Hamas as the main culprit for what is happening in the enclave.
"Israel has the right to defend itself while respecting international law," the European People's Folder (EPP) candidate said.
"The two-state solution is the only light at the end of the tunnel," she emphasized./BGNES
