OpenAI and global fashion magazine giant Condé Nast have announced a partnership that allows ChatGPT and its search engine SearchGPT to display content from Vogue, The New Yorker, GQ and other popular publications.
The multi-year contract is the latest such agreement OpenAI has entered into with major media companies.
Content created by media organizations is sought after by technology companies, who use it to train their AI models.
Some media firms, including the New York Times and the Chicago Tribune, opposed this and took legal action to protect their content.
OpenAI and Condé Nast did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement.
"We are committed to working with Condé Nast and other media publishers to ensure that as artificial intelligence plays a greater role in discovering and delivering news, it maintains accuracy, integrity and respect for quality coverage," said Brad Lightcap, COO of OpenAI.
News media organizations are not only witnessing their business models being challenged by the rise of social media and other digital platforms.
"Our partnership with OpenAI begins to offset some of that revenue, allowing us to continue to protect and invest in our journalism and creative endeavours," said Condé Nast CEO Roger Lynch.
In July, OpenAI launched its prototype artificial intelligence search engine - SearchGPT.
In a statement at the time, the company said it was gathering feedback and input from its news industry partners to develop the new platform.
Other companies that have partnered with the AI firm include Time magazine, the Financial Times and the Associated Press. | BGNES
