Viktoria Tomova will play against Poland's Magdalena Frech in the first round of the Paris Games. For the Bulgarian, this will be her debut at the Olympics.
Tomova has just one win in five matches against Freh, who is currently ranked 57th in the world. Vicki won the match between them in Lyon in 2020 with 7:5, 6:7(5), 6:4, after which the 26-year-old Pole recorded four consecutive successes without losing a set. The two last met in the qualifiers of the tournament in Hobart (Australia) at the beginning of the season and Freh triumphed 6:1, 6:3.
If the start in Paris is successful, the 29-year-old Sofia will play in the second round against the winner of the match between the number 11 Emma Navarro (USA) and Julia Grabher (Austria).
Top seed Iga Šviontek plays Irina-Camelia Begu at the start. Elena Rybakina and Naomi Osaka could meet in the second round of the top half of the draw. For this purpose, however, the Japanese will have to overcome the former No. 1 Angelique Kerber, who is ending her career after the end of the Games.
Coco Goff is seeded #2 and plays Ajla Tomljanovic in the first round.
The competition on the red courts at the Roland Garros complex started on Saturday. | BGNES
