"The Hungarian government says it is on the side of peace, but it is actually on the side of war led by Putin".
This was stated by the American ambassador in Budapest, David Pressman, in connection with the last trip of the Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó to St. Petersburg, the "Guardian" reported.
"Hungary's addiction to Russian energy is dangerous and unnecessary," Pressman said.
"Minister Szijjarto is right: energy diversification is not a matter of ideology, but of physics. The laws of physics in Hungary are no different from the laws of physics in any of Hungary's EU partners who have chosen to reduce their dependence on Putin," the US diplomat added.
Pressman's criticism came amid heightened anti-Western propaganda by the Fidesz government (Viktor Orbán's party - note). With this rhetoric, the rulers in Budapest hope for electoral success in the upcoming European elections.
This past weekend, Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán spoke at a "peace" rally where he said Europe was preparing for war and that his political forces would stop it at the polls. | BGNES
