US Supreme Court hears appeal in TikTok ban case

The U.S. Supreme Court will hear TikTok's appeal of the law that could lead to its ban in the country. This will happen if ByteDance, the Chinese owner of the app, does not sell the platform.

The law, signed by President Joe Biden in April, will block TikTok from app stores and web hosting services in the US unless ByteDance makes a deal by January 19.

The U.S. government claims TikTok allows Beijing to collect data and spy on users, as well as being a conduit for propaganda. China and ByteDance vehemently deny these allegations.

TikTok believes that the Protecting Americans from Apps Controlled by Foreign Adversaries Act - violates its First Amendment rights.

"We trust that the Court will find TikTok's ban unconstitutional so that the more than 170 million Americans on our platform can continue to exercise their free speech rights," a spokesperson for the platform said. | BGNES
