The US embassy in Russia has warned that "extremists" are planning an attack on Moscow, hours after Russian authorities foiled a planned attack on a synagogue by an Afghan cell of Islamic State (IS). The embassy, which has repeatedly urged all American citizens to leave Russia immediately, did not provide details on the nature of the threat, but said people should avoid concerts and crowds and be aware of their surroundings.
"The embassy is monitoring reports that extremists have immediate plans to attack large gatherings in Moscow, including concerts, and US citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings for the next 48 hours," the embassy's website said, as quoted by Western media. His warning was issued hours after Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said it had foiled an attack on a Moscow synagogue carried out by a cell of the militant Sunni Muslim Islamic State group.
Meanwhile, the Committee for National Security (KNB) of Kazakhstan is verifying information about the killing of two Kazakhs by Russian security forces in an attempt to organize a terrorist attack in Russia. This was announced by the press service of the Committee, to which TASS refers.
