A US pier used to deliver aid to Gaza will be temporarily moved to an Israeli port to protect it from rough seas.
The pier was attached to the Gaza shore only a week ago after it suffered storm damage in May that necessitated repairs in Ashdod.
"Today, due to expected rough seas, the temporary pier will be dismantled from its anchored position in Gaza and towed back to Ashdod, Israel," U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a social media post.
"The safety of our service members is a top priority and the temporary relocation of the pier will prevent structural damage caused by inclement weather," the message said.
Aid shipments through the pier, which have so far totaled more than 3,500 metric tons, will resume once seas calm. | BGNES
