More than one million children are in the Gaza Strip, many of them missing or under the rubble of buildings because of the fighting in the Palestinian enclave, said the executive director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Catherine Russell.
Citing data from the fund, she said that since the beginning of the escalation in the Gaza Strip, around 4,600 children have already died and around 9,000 minors have been injured. "Many children are missing and probably buried under the rubble of buildings and houses," the UNICEF Executive Director stressed.
UNICEF earlier reported that more than 300,000 children have been displaced from their homes since the start of fighting in the Gaza Strip.
Israel's war with Hamas has been ongoing since October 7. During the invasion of fighters from the group on the territory of Israel, 1,200 people were killed and 5,400 were injured. According to Hamas, the number of people killed in the fighting in Gaza reached 11,300 people. On October 27, Israel launched a ground operation in the Gaza Strip. On November 2, the Israel Defense Forces announced the complete encirclement of Gaza City. /BGNES
