The population in the countries of the Western Balkans will decrease by about three million people by 2050. If last year it was 16,977,000 inhabitants, by 2050 it will be around 13,975,000.
This is stated in a report of the United Nations /UN/, BGNES reported.
According to UN estimates, North Macedonia's population of 1,836,000 will decrease to 1,519,000 - a drop of 17.3%.
The largest decline is projected for Serbia, which last year had a population of 6,788,000, and in 2050 will have 5,554,000, or 1.2 million fewer inhabitants, a drop of 18.2%.
In percentage terms, the largest decrease will be in the population of Bosnia and Herzegovina /BiH/ and Albania.
In 2050, BiH will have 2,469,000 inhabitants, which is as much as 22.7% less, and the population of Albania will drop from 2,822,000 to 2,251,000 people (-20.2).
The population of Montenegro will melt by 14.8 percent, i.e. from 628,000 inhabitants will become 535,000. | BGNES
