UN: Palestinians experience unspeakable horrors in Gaza

Israel launched a major air and ground assault on 6 October, tightening its siege on the war-ravaged area.

Palestinians are experiencing "unspeakable horrors" in the northern Gaza Strip, the UN humanitarian office said, insisting that "the atrocities must stop".

"Horrifying news from northern Gaza, where Palestinians continue to endure unspeakable horrors under siege by Israeli forces," the acting head of the UN humanitarian office, Joyce Msuya, wrote in X.

"In Jabalia, people are trapped under rubble and first responders are stranded and unable to reach them. Tens of thousands of Palestinians have been forcibly displaced. Supplies of essential goods are running low. Hospitals overloaded with patients are affected. These atrocities must stop," she added.

Msuya said that under international humanitarian law, civilians, the wounded and sick, as well as staff and health facilities must be protected.

Gaza's Civil Protection Agency says more than 400 people have been killed in the large-scale Israeli military operation in two weeks in the north of the territory. | BGNES
