The United Nations has said that eight staff members of its Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA) "may have been involved" in the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, AFP reported.
"We have enough information to take the action we are taking - that is, the dismissal of these 9 individuals," UN spokesman Farhan Haq said.
Haq said the organization would have to consider any further steps to "fully confirm" the culpability of the officials in question.
Haq's statement came after the UN watchdog concluded its investigation into Israeli claims from earlier this year that a total of 19 UNRWA staff may have been involved in the attack.
That prompted many governments, including top donor the United States, to abruptly freeze funding to the agency, jeopardizing its efforts to deliver aid to Gaza. Several countries have since resumed payments. | BGNES
