"The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Dmytro Kuleba has resigned," announced the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk.
Stefanchuk said that Kuleba's resignation would be "considered at one of the upcoming plenary sessions," but did not specify a date, Kyiv Independent reported.
Serving as foreign minister since 2020, Kuleba has spearheaded Ukraine's efforts to engage international allies and secure new partnerships since the start of Russian aggression. After earlier rumors of his sacking in August 2023, Kuleba said on national television that he was not worried about the possibility.
"I work, no job is permanent and I'm completely relaxed about everything. I said from the beginning that I would leave under two circumstances: the first is if the president asks me to do so. The second is if I fall into some fundamental contradiction with foreign policy and I don't think it's possible to work with him," said the top Ukrainian diplomat.
On September 3, Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing unnamed sources, that Kuleba would be fired and that his replacement was still being considered. The most likely candidate for the position will be Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sibikha.
The news follows a number of other high-ranking ministers resigning - Strategic Industries Minister Alexander Kamishin, Justice Minister Denis Maliuska, Ecology Minister Ruslan Strilets, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olya Stefanishina and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Reintegration Irina Vereshchuk. | BGNES
