Ukraine will receive 800 mln. dollars from the USA to stabilize its energy infrastructure, announced Yuliya Sviridenko, the first deputy prime minister of Ukraine, during his visit to Washington.
Meanwhile, Kiev is considering the dismissal of Volodymyr Kudricky, the head of Ukrenergo, the state-owned company that manages the Ukrainian electricity grid.
According to Sviridenko, the funds will be released for basic equipment for the immediate overhaul of Ukraine's energy facilities, which have been severely damaged by nearly two years of Russian airstrikes.
Russia has repeatedly launched massed attacks against Ukraine with the help of energy networks, in order to cripple the ability and determination of the countries to oppose the invasion. These attacks began during the autumn-winter period of 2022-2023. and was renewed in the spring of 2024.
After a short lull during the summer, which allowed Ukraine to restore part of its energy capacity, in recent days Russia has renewed its attacks. According to government estimates, Russian drones and missiles have damaged around 50% of Ukraine's pre-war electricity production capacity.
"Ukraine's energy infrastructure is in urgent need of restoration, and in this context our American partners play a crucial role," Andriy Yermak, head of Ukraine's presidential office, wrote in Telegram. And BGNES
