Ukraine is a top priority for von der Leyen's next term

Ursula von der Leyen identified aid to Ukraine as the top priority of the EU. Her statement came during the debate between the candidates for the new president of the European Commission (EC), which took place in Brussels.
"First of all, Ukraine should be helped. Ukraine is fighting a war that is a war of freedom against oppression, Ukraine is fighting for our values and for all free nations," Von der Leyen said.
The current EC President added that improvements are needed in the European defense industry.
"There are two options: national contributions or new own resources for the European level. It's time to talk about new own resources," she said, calling for talks between European institutions and member states on common defense funding.
Von der Leyen said he would only work with pro-European parties.
"I will work with pro-European, pro-Ukrainian/anti-Putin and pro-rule of law."
In this context, she can work with people like Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni.
"She is clearly pro-European, she is against Putin."
The President of the EC said that parties like the National Assembly and the Alternative for Germany may have different names and principles, but they are friends of Putin and want to destroy Europe, and we will not let that happen.
She paid particular attention to climate change.
"The EU has set itself the goal of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and this has happened during my tenure as President of the European Commission."
Von der Leyen added that a road map to achieving a clean economy had been drawn up and that dialogue was ongoing between the EU, industry and farmers.
"In the dialogue with farmers, the answers are clear: we want climate neutrality and we want to get there, but we want to move from conditionality to incentives, to move to modern technologies. The same applies to industry. This is the task for the next term. ", said the current President of the EC.
Regarding the economic sphere, von der Leyen said that the EU will introduce a minimum wage. She added that funds will be allocated for the rehabilitation of buildings and social housing, for both of which more than 100 billion euros have been earmarked.
In relation to migration, she drew attention to the need for legal and safe arrival of migrants, noting the need for those not subject to protection to be returned. /BGNES
