Ukraine celebrates Christmas on December 25 for the first time, instead of on January 7

This year, for the first time, Ukraine celebrates the Nativity of Christ today instead of January 7.

In the middle of the year, in the month of July, the parliament in Kyiv moved the holiday to December 25, the day on which most of the Christian world celebrates Christmas.

The bill was personally introduced by President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to him, in this way the country will "distinguish itself from the Russian heritage".

"Evil will be defeated - today this is our common goal, our common desire and what we pray for - for our freedom, for our victory, for our Ukraine. Christ is born, glorify him!" Zelensky said tonight in his Christmas message from the Kyiv-Pechora Lavra. /BGNES
