Volodymyr Zelensky and Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro signed a 10-year bilateral security agreement.
Portugal becomes the 12th country to sign such an agreement, along with Belgium, Spain, Great Britain, Germany, France, Denmark, Italy, Canada, the Netherlands, Finland and Latvia, the Kyiv Independent reported.
The Ukrainian president arrived in Portugal on May 28 after visits to Belgium and Spain, where he signed bilateral security agreements with the leaders of both countries.
Under the agreement, Portugal will provide at least 126 million euros in military aid to Ukraine in 2024.
The document states that Lisbon confirms its participation in the F-16 coalitions and naval capabilities, as well as in the procurement of artillery ammunition, mine clearance and maritime security programs.
The two sides agreed to cooperate in defense industry, intelligence, cyber security and countering disinformation.
This is Zelensky's first visit to Portugal after taking office in 2019. He is also expected to meet with his Portuguese colleague Marcelo Rebelo de Souza and Ukrainian refugees./BGNES
