Tyson Fury announces retirement from boxing

Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has announced the end of his competitive career. At the end of December, the Gypsy King recorded a second consecutive loss to Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk, the only two defeats in his professional career.

All boxing fans hoped that they would get the long-awaited clash between British heavyweight stars Fury and Anthony Joshua in 2025, but this will not happen. "I want to announce that I am quitting boxing. It has been great. I have enjoyed every minute and I want to end it with this - Dick Turpin wore a mask," Fury wrote on social networks.

Dick Turpin is a famous British horse thief who was executed in 1739, but it is not clear what Fury means by his encrypted message.

Tyson Fury, 36, is a two-time world champion. He first conquered the heavyweight division after ending Wladimir Klitschko's long-standing dominance by defeating him in 2015. Fury struggled for the next three years and did not fight, but he rose to the top again after a famous trilogy with Deontay Wilder. The first fight ended in a draw, but the Gypsy King then recorded two victories over the Bronze Bomber. Thus, Fury remained undefeated until his two fights with Usyk in 2024, which ended in favor of the Ukrainian.

This is not the first time the Briton has announced his retirement from boxing. He did so in 2022 after his victory over Dillian Whyte, but then returned to fight Derek Chisora. | BGNES
