Tusk: The war in Ukraine is at a decisive stage, there is a risk of global conflict

Tusk's comments were made following Russia's attack on the Dnieper a day earlier, in which Moscow claimed to have tested a new missile - an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) called the Oreshnik.

Speaking at the congress of the Polish Teachers' Union, Tusk pointed to "the events of the last ten hours" as evidence of the existence of a "serious and real threat of global conflict."

"It would be difficult for me not to say a few fundamental words about the situation today, because it is historic. The war in the East is entering its decisive phase. We all know it. We feel that the unknown is approaching. None of us know the end of this conflict, but we know that it is now taking on very dramatic dimensions," he said.

On November 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin said his country had fired its "latest missile" in the attack on Dnieper, eastern Ukraine, that morning.

He said the test was in response to Ukraine targeting sites in the Russian Kursk and Bryansk regions with long-range missiles supplied by the West, ATAMS and Storm Shadow, on November 19 and 20. | BGNES
