Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that the recent developments in Syria could not be explained by external interference. According to him, the situation is the result of unresolved issues for the past 13 years, Anatolian news agency reported.
Recent developments once again show that the Syrian regime needs to reconcile with its own people and the legitimate opposition, Fidan said during a press conference with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, who is on an official visit to Turkey.
The Turkish foreign minister added that Ankara does not want to see further escalation in Syria's civil war, which has been ongoing since 2011.
On 27 November, clashes broke out between Assad regime forces and anti-regime armed groups in western Aleppo in northern Syria. This marked a re-escalation of fighting after a period of relative calm in the conflict. | BGNES
