Turkey detains 7 people for spying for Israel

Turkey says it has detained seven people, including a special detective, suspected of spying for Israel's Mossad intelligence agency.

During the operation of the Turkish spy agency and the anti-terrorism police in Istanbul, it was found that the suspects had passed information to the Mossad for money, Anadolu Agency reported.

The raids came after Turkish authorities in January rounded up 34 people suspected of plotting kidnappings and spying for the Mossad.

At the time, Istanbul prosecutors said 12 other suspects remained at large.

Relations between Turkey and Israel have deteriorated since the outbreak of the Gaza war nearly five months ago.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has become one of the world's fiercest critics of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

He compared Netanyahu to Adolf Hitler and demanded that Israel's Western allies abandon their support for the "state terrorism" being carried out in Gaza.

After the January arrest, Erdogan said the Turkish operation had "seriously disturbed" Israel.

"Wait a minute," he said, referring to Israeli authorities. "You will get to know Turkey." /BGNES
