Donald Trump has won the first eight primaries, including in Texas, US networks announced after results were received from the 15 "super Tuesday" states in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
The former president, who is bidding for a sensational return to the White House after being ousted by Democrat Joe Biden in 2020, can claim a clean sweep of states on March 5 en route to the GOP nomination.
Alabama, Arkansas, Maine, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia declared Trump the victor, who expressed gratitude on his "Truth Social" site as counting continued in other Super Tuesday states across the country.
His longtime challenger, former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, has failed to become a significant obstacle in Trump's path to the nomination, but has so far refused to drop out of the race.
In the race for the Democratic nomination, as expected, Biden won all of the first 11 states, US media reported.
