Donald Trump's campaign has raised nearly 53 million USD from online donations of small amounts after he was convicted in the New York "hush money" case. He boasted that the verdict had mobilized his support "like never before"
The record amount equates to more than 2 million USD raised per hour, the campaign said.
Senior campaign aides Chris Lacivita and Suzi Wiles said in statements that more than a third of the total came from new donors to the campaign and welcomed "the outpouring of support from patriots across our country."
Calling Thursday's court ruling a "sham court verdict," the councilors said the "digital fundraising system has been overflowing with support" despite temporary online delays "due to the amount of traffic" from donors of small amounts.
By the evening of May 31, the day's total had risen to an impressive 52.8 million USD.
