Donald Trump held his first outdoor campaign event since the assassination attempt.
He lashed out at his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, behind bulletproof glass at a rally in North Carolina.
Trump, 78, against a backdrop of vintage fighter jets at an aviation museum, called Harris "the most radical left-wing person" ever to run for the White House and said millions of jobs would "disappear overnight" if she won in November.
"Your savings will be completely destroyed," the Republican candidate was quoted as saying by AFP.
“All over the world our adversaries knew America was not to be trifled with when I was your commander in chief. If Comrade Kamala wins this November, World War III is almost guaranteed," Trump said.
The event in Asheboro was a chance for Trump to recapture his long-standing dominance of staging spectacular rallies.
It was his first major outdoor event since being slightly injured in an assassination attempt at a similar outdoor venue in Butler, Pennsylvania, a month ago.
The 20-year-old shooter was killed by a Secret Service sniper, who advised Trump to stick to more easily defensible indoor venues like sports arenas. Since then, he has held several indoor events.
Armored glass surrounded the podium where Trump and his Vice President-elect, JD Vance, addressed supporters in Asheboro.
At one point during his speech, Trump left the stage and went into the crowd to check on a man who apparently had a health problem. | BGNES
