Former President Donald Trump urged the US Supreme Court on Wednesday to throw out a ruling by Colorado's highest court that barred him from the western state's presidential primary. Colorado's Supreme Court barred Trump last month from appearing on the state's primary ballot because of his role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol by his supporters.
Lawyers for the former Republican president, in a 43-page complaint, asked the conservative-dominated Supreme Court, which includes three Trump-appointed justices, to agree to hear the case and "summarily overturn the Colorado Supreme Court's decision." They said the ruling, "if upheld, would mark the first time in US history that the judiciary has prevented voters from voting for a major party's leading presidential candidate.
It is noted that the state Supreme Court lacked the authority to make such a decision and misinterpreted Section 3 of the US Constitution. /BGNES
