Trump accepted the nomination and promised an improbable election victory

Donald Trump has predicted an "unbelievable victory" in the upcoming US presidential election after formally accepting the presidential nomination from the Republican Party.

"We're going to have an incredible victory and begin the four greatest years in the history of our country," Trump said at the Republican convention in Milwaukee.

It was his first speech since a 20-year-old man shot him at a rally last weekend.

"I'm running to be president of all of America, not half of America, because there's no winning in winning for half of America," Trump said, still wearing an ear patch.

Trump took the stage to chants of "USA" from the crowd, AFP reported.

Among the warm-up stars at the event were 1980s icon Hulk Hogan and Tucker Carlson, who called Trump's survival a "historic moment."

In the assassination attempt, Trump became "the leader of the nation," Carlson emphasized.

Republicans are more united than ever in support for the former and likely future president of the United States.

Trump's family was in attendance, and his son Eric fired up the crowd with chants of "Fight!"

Trump's wife, Melania, who was absent on the campaign trail, arrived to cheers but did not address supporters. | BGNES
