Toyota temporarily closes its plants in Japan due to an approaching typhoon

About 28 production lines in 14 companies of the group will cease operations.

Auto giant Toyota is temporarily halting production at all of its plants in Japan due to an approaching typhoon.

"From today's afternoon shift until tomorrow's day shift, we will stop all production lines in the local plants," a spokesman for the corporation told AFP.

About 28 production lines in 14 companies of the group will cease operations.

The decision came as the "extremely strong" typhoon Shanshan approached southern Japan, packing winds of up to 252km/h and bringing torrential rain.

The storm is expected to move over or near Japan towards its northeastern region by the end of the week. | BGNES
