Premier League champions Manchester City will host Tottenham Hotspur in a League Cup fourth-round tie, according to last night's late night draw. The clash in northern London will be a replay of the 2020/21 tournament final. Pep Guardiola's men then won 1:0 at Wembley with a goal from Aymeric Laporte.
The draw for the fourth round of the competition was made after the Arsenal v Bolton and Liverpool v West Ham matches. Cup holders Liverpool crushed the Hammers 5:1 at Anfield. Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo scored two goals each, and Mohamed Salah, who came off the bench, scored one. Federico Chiesa made his debut for the Merseysiders, assisting Jota's first goal. The visitors ended up with ten men on the pitch after Edson Alvarez's second yellow card.
Arsenal, on the other hand, prevailed with the same result over Bolton. At the Emirates, Declan Rice opened the scoring and two goals were scored by 17-year-old Gunners talent Ethan Nwaneri. For him, these were debut goals for the Londoners. Raheem Sterling, who came on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season, also scored his debut goal, and the last one came from Kai Havertz. Aaron Collins was accurate for the guests.
Arsenal will visit Preston North End in the next phase, while Liverpool travel to Brighton. Manchester United host Leicester and last edition's finalists Chelsea visit AFC Wimbledon/Newcastle. The two teams will play on October 1 after a flooded pitch at Wimbledon prevented the meeting from going ahead as scheduled on Tuesday night.
The Carabao Cup fourth round matches will be played in the week commencing October 28. The final is on March 16 next year.
