Tom Cruise will star in the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics on August 11. He may parachute into the Hollywood Sign during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics telecast. The stunt was quietly filmed in March, the Hollywood Reporter reported.
Cruise attended the Paris Games, including the women's gymnastics qualifiers, as well as the swimming events.
"It's great. Great stories, great athletes. It's incredible what they get to do, the sense of accomplishment," Cruz said.
Production company Fulwell 73 - co-helmed by James Corden - is behind the Los Angeles segment, which will combine pre-recorded and live elements.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the early plan included a big party at Will Rogers State Beach, where the Olympic flag ceremony will take place. It was cancelled due to concerns by the Los Angeles Police Department about prolonged closures of the Pacific Coast Highway and difficulties in obtaining the necessary permit from the California Coastal Commission. Fulwell 73 did not respond to a request for comment.
The opening ceremony of the Paris Games on July 26, featuring a performance by Lady Gaga, transvestites and world athletes floating down the Seine, drew mixed reactions.
Their closing and handover ceremonies have previously been the stage for celebrity spectacles. At the 2008 closing in Beijing, Jimmy Page and Leona Lewis performed Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" together while riding on a faux bus bound for London.
