An avalanche near the Austrian ski resort of Sölden has killed three skiers from the Netherlands. Another person was rescued and taken to hospital, the Guardian reported.
The victims were part of a 17-member ski touring group that was on a climb with four Austrian guides.
The group was heading for a mountain refuge at about 2,500m above sea level when the avalanche, about 80m wide, fell shortly before 11am on 11 April.
It carried away four members of the group, two of whom were dead when rescuers found them. The other two were injured; one was taken to hospital by helicopter and the other remained on the mountain. The skier who remained on the mountain has died, a police spokesman later said.
The Dutch foreign ministry said the country's embassy in Vienna was investigating exactly what happened and was ready to aid if needed.
The avalanche warning level in the province of Tyrol, where Sölden is located, is "moderate", , but experts have warned of the possibility of avalanches. / BGNES
