Thomas Tuchel has agreed to become the new manager of the England men's national football team. According to Sky in Germany, Tuchel has signed an 18-month contract with the Football Association, which will take effect from January 1 next year.
The German manager's appointment means Lee Carsley will remain in charge on an interim basis for the Three Lions' final two Nations League games against Greece and the Republic of Ireland in November.
Tuchel is expected to be officially unveiled as the new manager at a press conference later today at Wembley. He will thus permanently replace Gareth Southgate, who stepped down after England's loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final. Tuchel, 51, will become the third non-English specialist to lead the national team after the late Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
The German has no experience at national team level, but at club level he led Chelsea to Champions League triumph in 2021 and also managed Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain. This puts an end to the speculation linking the name of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola with the position of England coach. | BGNES
