The women's and men's Olympic triathlons will be held today after pollution in the River Seine has dropped to swimmable levels.
The men's triathlon at the Paris Olympics was originally scheduled to take place on Tuesday, but the water has been unsafe for swimming for three consecutive days due to high levels of pollution.
The reason for this was the heavy rain over the French capital on Friday and Saturday, which confused the plans of the organizers. "The results of the latest tests show that the water is within normal limits," the organizers announced on Wednesday. The women's triathlon will start at 9:00 Bulgarian time, and the men's - at 11:45.
The holding of the triathlon competition in the Seine was planned by the organizers as one of the emblematic events of the Olympics in Paris. French authorities are said to have spent around €1 billion trying to clean up the Seine. | BGNES
