The USA is preparing to announce a package of military aid to Ukraine worth about 125 million dollars, the "Kyiv Independent" reported.
The new package will include new HIMARS missiles, Javelins, anti-tank weapons, anti-drone systems and electronics, as well as 155mm and 105mm artillery shells, sources familiar with the matter said.
The package is expected to be announced as early as August 23, ahead of Ukraine's Independence Day on August 24.
On June 1, the US authorized Ukraine to use US-supplied weapons, including HIMARS missiles, to strike targets in Russia located near the border with Kharkiv Oblast. In recent months, Ukraine's armed forces have used US-supplied weapons to strike targets in Russia.
The new military package will be provided by the president's arms reduction authority, a mechanism that allows the president to supply weapons to allies from current US stockpiles.
In April, the US passed a long-awaited $61 billion aid package, much of which covered military aid.
On August 9, Washington provided Ukraine with a $125 million aid package. | BGNES
