The US Senate passed a $60 billion funding bill for Ukraine by a vote of 70 to 29, with several Republicans supporting it.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives indicated that he will not be accepted in the lower house of the parliament with a majority of Republicans, reported AFP.
Republicans backing former president and 2024 front-runner Donald Trump have vowed to reject the bill as it stands, which also includes military aid to US allies Taiwan and Israel.
The $95 billion package includes funding for Israel's military and key strategic ally Taiwan, but the lion's share -- $60 billion -- will help Ukraine rebuild stocks of depleted ammunition, weapons and other vital necessities as it enters its third year of war.
The bill does not include changes to US immigration policy.
A previous Senate text, covering both the border and foreign aid, was blocked by GOP members in the upper chamber after he similarly vowed to reject it in the House over concerns that it wasn't given enough attention of illegal border crossing.
"House Republicans have been crystal clear from the very beginning of the discussions that any so-called supplemental national security legislation must recognize that national security begins at our own border," Johnson stressed. /BGNES
