Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said at the G20 ministerial meeting in Rio de Janeiro that the entire UN system must be reformed. He cited the inability of the UN Security Council (UNSC) to resolve international crises as the reason, TRT Haber reported.
According to the TV channel, during his speech at the session on "Global Governance Reform", the Turkish minister said that the UN Security Council "has not taken any steps" on many issues, especially the Gaza crisis. Mr Fidan believes this "casts a shadow on the reputation of the entire UN system". He believes a "more democratic and accountable" UN system based on international law is needed.
Hakan Fidan also stated that the international financial system should be more inclusive, transparent and sustainable. According to him, financial institutions and banks must adopt policies that take into account the interests of developing and poor countries, otherwise the G-20 will not achieve its goal of sustainable development.
Earlier, India spoke about the need to reform the UN Security Council, calling for the inclusion of Latin American, African and Asian countries in the council. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan believes that changes are needed in the UN Security Council due to the "unsustainability" of the organization. The Kremlin agreed with the need for reforms in the UN Security Council./BGNES
