The Taliban movement ruling Afghanistan has banned men from wearing jeans and fashionable hairstyles. The new laws, passed in late August, ban the imitation of "non-Muslims" in appearance and behavior, the Washington Post reported. So men in the country can't have fashionable hairstyles, cut their beards shorter than the length of their fist and wear denim pants. In addition, men are now forbidden to look at women who are not their wives or relatives.
According to locals, such restrictions come as an unexpected surprise to Afghanistan's male population. Now many of them have begun to wonder if they should not have protected their wives and daughters earlier. "If the men had shown up, we might be in a different situation now. Now everyone is dropping their beards because we don't want to be questioned or humiliated," said a Kabul resident.
The new laws give the morality police powers to detain suspects for up to three days. It specifies that the men can be fined or jailed for breaking the rules.
Earlier, it was reported that Afghanistan has introduced a ban on women appearing in public with their faces uncovered. | BGNES
