The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) reported that 57 journalists have been killed since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas.
The first month of the war between Israel and Gaza was the deadliest month for journalists since the CPJ began documenting journalist deaths in 1992, the New York-based non-profit organization said in a statement, the Guardian reported.
The committee said it was also investigating numerous unconfirmed reports of other journalists "killed, missing, detained, injured or threatened, as well as damage to media offices and journalists' homes".
Sherif Mansour, the organization's program coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa, said:
“CPJ emphasizes that journalists are civilians who do important work in times of crisis and should not be targeted by warring parties. Journalists across the region are making great sacrifices to cover this heartbreaking conflict.
Those in Gaza in particular have paid and continue to pay an unprecedented price and face exponential threats. Many of them lost colleagues, families and media facilities and fled in search of safety when there is no safe refuge or exit"./BGNES
