Dutch Foreign Minister Kaspar Veldkamp said that the Netherlands is interested in the Italian-Albanian model for dealing with migration. The mechanism in question was created by the agreement Rome reached with Tirana to build Italian centres for migrants on Albanian territory, ANSA reports.
"I believe that the Italian policy on migrants is in line with what was agreed by EU leaders several years ago," Veldkamp said after a meeting with his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani in Rome.
"We do not intend to join the specific agreement between Italy and Albania, but we are looking at it with great interest because we also want to explore new ideas and possibilities for new places to control migration flows. Italy has done all this within the framework of European law and the Convention on Human Rights. We need to innovate and think outside the box," the top Dutch diplomat added. | BGNES
